Re-plate Your Old Pieces for a Polished Finish

Over time, the thin piece of metal (plate) that encases our beloved jewelry can sometimes become worn or chipped. This doesn’t mean that you need to give up wearing it or put it in the jewelry box forever, though.

At TeLayne Designs, we specialize in creating pieces from the ground up – this means that we have the tools and experience necessary to plate your old pieces to get back their original forms. We can re-plate your yellow gold, rose gold or white gold jewelry for a perfect finish.

Jewelry Plating FAQs

We plate only jewelry made out of gold.

We can plate all different kinds of jewelry – rings, necklaces, bracelets, chains, etc.

We can plate your jewelry with a variety of different golds, in all karats – yellow gold, rose gold, rhodium, and so forth. Prior to any re-plating project, our team will consult with you on the process and what to expect with regards to the finished piece.

With this in mind, we may recommend different thicknesses of plating depending on the piece at hand. Rings typically require a thicker layer to add more durability, whereas rings and chains may get away with a layer that is more thin.

Just like with a brand new piece of plated jewelry, a replated piece of jewelry can experience the same wear and tear.

This means that with pieces that experience daily contact with other materials, such as rings, wearing of the plate can occur. For pieces that don’t experience such physical exposure – like necklaces or earrings – degradation of the new plate is unlikely to occur.

Most gemstones can be plated along with your gold jewelry. There are some exceptions to this, however, as some gems can become damaged during the plating process – namely opals, malachite, pearls, moonstones, corals, and lapis.

Prior to any replating process, we will provide you with a thorough consultation on what to expect.
